The Great Kapok Tree A Tale of the Rain Forest Lynne Cherry 9780152026141 Books Reviews

  • What a beautiful and powerful book! I teach a combined class of 1st and 2nd-grades. I used this book to teach interdependence and conservation. The pictures are amazing! The message is delivered in a lovely way easy to understand by my age group but it's still interesting to older kids as well.
  • What's not to love. This book has been around forever and is still timely. Beautifully illustrated and full of rich vocabulary that is a teacher's dream this book is a perfect intro into topics of all sorts Rainforests, Green Living, Conservation, and how all living things are linked together. I used this book when I taught school 15 years ago and just bought another copy to read to my own children before a trip to the rainforest in Peru. LOVE this book.
  • Vivid art work and a great story to interest kids of all ages. I actually found that my middle school students loved this book when I was teaching. I recently bought it for my 5 year old niece as it was such a favorite of mine. She loved the pictures and story, but think she will get more out of the story as she ages.
  • I visited Costa Rica and wanted my 8 year-old grandson to understand the rainforest. This conservation story helps readers to understand the value of the forest and animals. The illustrations are outstanding. One weakness is the lack of a glossary to help the reader pronounce coati, macaw, sloth, kapok, etc.
  • I bought this book for my 2 year old grandson. He absolutely loved it and understood it. He's now almost 5 and we read it all the time. We also have given it as birthday presents to his friends and the kids and parents, as well, love it. It truly gives them a deep understanding of the rainforest and our responsibility in preserving it.
  • I really liked reading this with my 6 yr old. This book was brilliantly illustrated and nicely introduced species inter-dependence within an ecosystem. The World Map allowed us to comfortably get an idea of our relative location. Another illustration demonstrated the great height of the tree and throughout the story I was able to reference which part each of the animals inhabited for the numerous uses that were well described. An easy and informative read. He was so engrossed!
  • Ilustrations are fabulous and interconnectivity between all living things is reiterated within this wonderful book. A must read!
  • Great book. I used this for a lesson in my first grade class. The children loved it and it let itself to multiple teaching opportunities. Very informative. Great for teaching about the rainforest and conservation.
